Aftermath: Gridlock
Power has defeated Love.
The game is over.
Commonality has been buried by difference.
Connectedness shredded to separateness.
Peace unto you, John Donne,
but we arenow islands unto ourselves,
irremediably different,
antiseptically separate.
Power has defeated Love.
The game is over.
Power, once unleashed, begets power.
Separateness feeds difference
and difference legitimates separateness.
So round and round it goes,
Power growing
Love diminishing.
The war is over.
All sides have won,
all sides have lost.
A shattered world revealed,
Power without Love.
difference
without commonality,
separateness
without connectedness,
while everywhere righteousness and bitterness abound.
Amid the rubble,
there is a whisper from Love:
“As Power begets Power
so also does Love beget Love.”
Connectedness, once risked, reveals difference andcommonality
and commonality, once revealed, tears down barriers to connectedness.
Risks will be taken
and from this war’s rubble will emerge
a world of Power
and Love.
Is it true?
Oh yes, it is true.
But is it believable?
Aha, now that’s a deeper question.
